2007 Hidden Gardens Tour Kick-off Meeting
We are having a 2007 Hidden Gardens Tour Kick-off Meeting this THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND at 7 PM in the Allentown Public Library. We need your help on the committee. Please join us as we put our thinking caps on and plan for our 2007 Garden Tour!
Mark your calendars and invite your friends to our
March Meeting
Allentown United Methodist Church
Thursday, March 8
7:00 PM
Our own, Liz Herbert will teach us how to eradicate unwanted pests from our gardens, such as deer, rabbits, moles and voles!
April Membership Meeting Date – April 12th
I have a correction to the Membership booklet. Our April meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 12th, NOT Friday, April 13th as it is written in the booklet. Uh-oh, as my daughter says.
Allentown Garden Club Field Trip
At our February meeting we discussed planning a field trip to a local nursery or garden. We would do this on a weekend when it is a bit warmer. We would probably car pool or just meet at the destination. We would like to stay fairly local (no more than an hours drive, give or take). Please send your ideas for local gardening trips to me – I will tally the ideas, email them to everyone, and discuss at our March meeting.
Other Club Activities
The Watering Can Planters we built at our February meeting were a success thanks to Bob Cottrell (Allison Mains’ dad). We also had help from Allison’s husband and Mike Sharp! Everyone left the meeting with all fingers and toes! It would be fun to do another hands-on workshop next year – if you have ideas for projects pass them along.
Some other things we discussed at our February meeting…
1. Perennial plantings around the new
Allentown Borough welcome signs. We need to get Borough counsel and home/land
owner approval first.
2. Villagers request for flower arrangements for their House Tour on September 29th.
Outside Club Activities
The NJ Native Plant Society is having their annual meeting on March 24th at 10 AM. They are looking for new members, potential speakers and people to just come and learn about who they are and what they do. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. See attached flyer for more information about this event.
